![]() ![]() ![]() “Now when your records ain’t that funky then it’s easy to disrespect thisĬause you know that when I hit I didn’t miss Quik’s response cut straight to the heart of the matter: He claimed that he was growing tired of the increasing popularity of West Coast music that was causing him and other East Coast acts to be overlooked by record labels and publications alike. On the song, Quik takes time to address issues with MC Eiht and Bronx-based rapper, Tim Dog, who had released a song called “Fuck Compton”. ![]() The video featured Quik dressed in all black, surrounded by his homies in a dark warehouse setting that becomes illuminated by random flashes of light. The title track, “Way 2 Fonky” was the first single released from the album. Quik even finds the time to raise HIV awareness, advocating condom use on the song. As one would expect, the song is all about sex. It can be seen as a loose (no pun intended) sequel to “Sweet Black Pussy” from the first album. “Mo Pussy” features a sample of Blowfly’s “Convoy” and an interpolation of The Gap Band’s “Oops Upside Your Head”. The album kicks off with “America’z Most Complete Artist”, which samples The D.O.C.’s “No One Can Do It Better” and in retrospect is more of a statement of fact, rather than a mere paltry boast. Professionally known as DJ Quik, Blake set out to prove that the success of his debut album, “Quik Is The Name”, was indeed no fluke. Another one of those overlooked albums is the sophomore effort from Compton’s own David Blake. Most people tend to overlook the other exceptional releases of that year, which included Spice-1’s self titled debut album, Too Short’s “Shorty The Pimp”, MC Ren’s “Kizz My Black Azz”, and Ice Cube’s “The Predator”. 1992 was a remarkable year in West Coast rap music. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() While from a performance point of view the Award-winning Mojo 2 can just as confidently raise a hi-fi system’s game too, some of those looking for a system boost might reasonably prefer a dedicated system alternative with more suitable connections, such as the Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M (below). And while those familiar with Chord’s most affordable product will see from the accompanying image that the aesthetic hasn’t exactly been overhauled for the sequel, significant progress has been made elsewhere to protect its position as the pinnacle of portable DACs. The fittingly named Mojo 2 is the long-anticipated, re-engineered replacement to the 2015-released original Mojo, which burst onto the scene as a real benchmark-setting game-changer in the then-fledgling world of portable DACs/headphone amps. Offering a significant upgrade over computer sound quality in an era where people need it most, the Zen DAC V2 is another feather in the cap for iFi’s budget Zen series. At the other end is another Pentaconn balanced output, which sits alongside the more conventional 6.3mm socket. This budget DAC, which can be USB or mains powered (though a mains adapter doesn’t come in the box), is excellent in both the features and performance department for the money.Īt one end is a USB Type B input, plus RCA line-level and 4.4mm Pentaconn balanced outputs. The output of the Zen DAC can be switched between fixed and variable, meaning the iFi can operate as a digital preamp if you so wish. They pay off, as the DAC's current What Hi-Fi? Award-winning status demonstrates. It’s what iFi has done with its budget home DAC and headphone amp offering, with the original Zen DAC now making way for a ‘V2’ model that offers improvements in terms of processing, MQA decoding and circuitry. But at the same time we realise that in a competitive industry such as hi-fi, making the best even better off your own back isn’t necessarily a bad idea. The ‘if it ain’t broke…’ saying isn’t lost on us. ![]() ![]() ![]() We're committed to going above and beyond to deliver excellence straight to your doorstep. When exploded they also produce crates containing random loot as well as either a teleporter or "slime key" which allow access to new areas or fast-travel between known areas.ĭevelopment of Slime Rancher started in Popovich's apartment. Players can shoot food items at them until they explode, to gain normal versions of the Gordo slime's species. These are found across the Far Far Range. These Gordos are extremely large and cannot move around like regular or Largo slimes. Most slimes also have a Gordo version of themselves. Some of the types of slimes available in game include, docile (not feral), harmful, non-farmable, and feral. There are different kinds of slimes in the game, which all differ from small traits like simple ears, wings, and tails, to the ability to teleport or grab a chicken via a vine that emerges from the ground. The player can pump fresh water from ponds and springs to splash and disintegrate the Tarrs. ![]() However, if a slime combines more than three traits by eating a third plort different from either species of slime it is combined with, it becomes an aggressive malevolent black slime called the "Tarr", which devours all other slimes around it as well as being able to damage the player. ![]() Upgrades can also be aesthetic upgrades to the character's home, Vacpack, and the ranch itself.ĭifferent types of slimes can be combined and enlarged by feeding a slime a plort from another species, making them noticeably larger and able to produce two plorts (known as "Largo" in game). The player must buy and upgrade various enclosures to house their collected slimes and farms for storing their food. They can only store a limited number of items and item types at a time and must go back to their ranch to unload their collected items before being able to collect more. The player moves the character around a variety of environments and can collect slimes, food items, and plorts by sucking them up with their vacuum tool (called a "Vacpack", a portmanteau of vacuum and backpack). Slimes have a favourite food, if they eat this food they will produce double the normal number of plorts. Except for the basic pink slime, slimes will only eat one of the three types of food fruit, veggie, and meat. The game's main economic aspect revolves around feeding slimes the appropriate food items so that they produce "plorts", which can then be sold in exchange for Newbucks, which are used to purchase upgrades to the rancher's equipment or farm buildings. However, in the last two decades they’ve cemented Hell’s Backbone as one of the best restaurants in the southwestern U.S. Neither had a culinary background or industry experience. Chef-owners Jen Castle and Blake Spalding opened the restaurant in 2000. Located on the property of the picturesque Boulder Mountain Lodge, Hell’s Backbone is a small, farm-to-table restaurant with a big reputation. The town is indeed small, boasting little more than a post office, elementary school, town hall, fire station, church, mini-mart, and a couple of hotels. The most scenic portion of the drive came along UT-24, as we passed under the imposing sedimentary towers of Capitol Reef National Park.Īfter driving through Capitol Reef, we picked up Scenic Byway 12 near the town of Torrey and followed it 35 miles south to Boulder. We hit a few pounding rain showers around Moab, but the weather fortuitously cleared as we continued west. As we followed 191 up through Moab and Canyonlands, the landscape was suddenly bursting with red rock and sandstone sculptures. Our somewhat circuitous route through eastern and central Utah was gorgeous. But how could we not stop? With the small, seasonal restaurant closing the day after we arrived in Monroe, this would be our only opportunity. When we inspected the map, we saw that it would add a good couple hours to our drive. An avid outdoor lover who’s extremely well-versed in the western part of the country, we were certainly keen to heed her advice. During our three-month summer in Montana, our AirBnb host’s daughter told us if we ended up in southern Utah, we had to check out a restaurant called Hell’s Backbone Grill. ![]() We decided to make a special stop in Boulder on our way from Durango to Monroe. The scenic thoroughfare earned the distinction of All-American road status in 2002, a designation claimed by just 31 (one-third) of America’s scenic byways. Boulder has long been considered one of the most isolated towns in the country, though its position on Utah’s Scenic Byway 12 has helped it see an uptick in visitors in recent years. Home to just two hundred residents, Boulder is nestled between the rugged terrain of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Capitol Reef National Park, and Dixie National Forest. Similar to those well-known Utah locales, the tiny town of Boulder is just over two hours from Monroe. Salt Lake City, Moab, Zion – all were about a 2.5-hour drive. Boston, the beaches, Providence, Hartford, Lake Winnipesaukee… I’m pretty sure no New Englander gauges distance in miles, rather we use ‘a couple hours’ as our precisely calibrated measuring stick. It kind of reminded me of growing up in rural New Hampshire where everything is two hours away. Located in south-central Utah, Monroe is one of those tiny, pastoral towns that’s near absolutely nothing yet not too far from anything. ![]() ![]() Thus, a Micro Four Thirds camera gives us more depth of field when compared to a full-frame camera, assuming both cameras are using equivalent effective focal lengths. The aperture or f-stop is one of several factors determining the depth of field. Depth of fieldĪs with focal length, a multiplier effect gets applied to the aperture when using APS-C and MFT cameras. Right: Photo taken at 35mm on a Micro Four Thirds camera. Center: Photo taken at 35mm on a crop-sensor camera. Left: Photo taken at 35mm on a full-frame camera. ![]() Thus, if I mount a 35mm lens on my Nikon D5600, it would multiply the focal length by 1.5x, effectively giving me a focal length output of around 52.5mm. And since an APS-C camera (and a Micro Four Thirds camera) crop out the edges of the frame, you end up with an “effective” focal length that corresponds directly to the original focal length multiplied by the crop factor.įor example, a crop-sensor camera such as the Nikon D5600 has a crop factor of 1.5x. You see, the focal length measurement of any given lens is based on the standard 35mm film format. Focal lengthĪ crop factor has a predictable affect on your lens’s focal length. Use a Micro Four Thirds camera, and you’ll get an even tighter result (the right image). But apply the APS-C crop factor, and you get a tighter shot (the center image). The image on the left was taken with a full-frame camera. Right: Photo taken with a Micro Four Thirds camera. Center: Photo taken with a crop-sensor camera. Left: Photo taken with a full-frame camera. The Micro Four Thirds crop factor is even stronger: 2x.Īs I explained above, the crop factor affects your field of view. An APS-C sensor (also known as a crop sensor), has a crop factor of 1.5x (on Nikon and Sony cameras) or 1.6x (on Canon cameras). A full-frame camera is the standard it has no crop factor. It refers to the different crop effects created by different sensor sizes. You’ll get a tighter shot, one that looks like it was taken with a longer lens.)Īnd that is what the term crop factormeans. The effect is similar to taking a photo with a 50mm lens, then heading home and cropping the image on your computer. Since an APS-C sensor is smaller than the full-frame sensor, the sensor crops the frame, giving you a result that looks zoomed in – as if you took the photo with a 75mm lens rather than a 50mm lens. Simple.īut what if you mount a 50mm lens on an APS-C camera? Will it capture a 50mm image? Makes sense, right? A 50mm lens captures a 50mm image. ![]() When you press the shutter button, it captures a 50mm image. Say you mount a 50mm lens on a full-frame camera. So let’s take a look at the factors affected by sensor size, starting with: Crop factor So the aperture f-stop to get the same depth of field would need to be f/2.6.Now, apart from the physical sizes, there are several important differences between full-frame, APS-C, and Micro Four Thirds sensors. To calculate the f-stop needed it does 4 / 1.53 = 2.61 = f/2.6.The calculator will then do the calculation 50 / 1.53 = 32.68 = 33 mm, meaning you would need a lens with a focal length of 33 mm, so the image is equivalent to one formed with a 50 mm full-frame lens.Go to the second section, "35mm full-frame equivalents", and input a focal length of 50 mm and an f-stop of 4.Now the calculator is an APS-C focal length calculator. Select the Sony APS-C crop factor with a value of 1.53x from the list of sensor sizes. You have an APS-C camera with a crop factor of 1.53x (a super 35 crop factor), and you want to buy a lens that will give the same image as a 50mm f/4 full-frame lens. Let's look at a common problem when choosing lenses for crop sensor cameras. The calculator will apply the crop factor and tell you the focal length and f-stop in terms of 35mm full-frame equivalents.Īs with most Omni calculators, it also works backward. You can then input the focal length of your camera's lens and the aperture f-stop you are interested in using. An example image will appear when you do this, showing how much smaller or larger your sensor is compared to the standard full-frame sensor. The first thing to do is to select your camera's sensor size from the list of sensor sizes. ![]() |
